How it works
All three formats use the same 13-card rules, sets, sequences, jokers and declarations. If you have not read them yet, start with the Rummy guide.
- The table fixes the number of deals before the game begins.
- Every player starts with the same number of chips.
- In each deal, losers score points for cards outside valid groups.
- Chips move from the losers to the winner of that deal, based on those points.
- After the last deal, the player with the most chips wins.
Chips and scoring
- The winner of a deal gains chips equal to the total points the others scored.
- Each loser loses chips equal to their own points.
- Points are usually capped at 80 per deal, with the same drop penalties as other rummy formats.
- Chip totals carry over between deals, so every deal matters.
Points, Pool and Deals Rummy
| Points Rummy | One deal. Winner is paid by the points of the others. |
|---|---|
| Pool Rummy | Many deals. Players drop out at a point limit (101 or 201). Last player wins. |
| Deals Rummy | A fixed number of deals. Most chips at the end wins. |
Common beginner mistakes
- Playing the last deal as if it were the first. A big lead or deficit changes what you should risk.
- Not tracking the chip totals between deals.
- Holding on to high cards in the final deal.
- Joining a table with more deals than you have time for.
Risks and responsible play
With a fixed number of deals the game feels short and controlled, but each deal can move many chips, and one weak deal can decide the result. The money at stake is set by the table, so check it first.
